I was hand-picked by my college professors to be trained as a peer tutor/writing consultant for our university's Writing Center. In order to work at the Writing Center, I had to take a course in tutoring strategies that has thus far been the most useful class I have ever taken. Tutoring is still the most enjoyable job I have ever had, and I have had a few! I have also taught reading and some writing to 1st, 5th, and 6th grade students at a charter school, and I aided 7th grade English teachers for a year. Since then, I have tutored reading and writing privately and have always gotten excellent feedback from my students. My students have ranged from eight years old to thirty and 2nd grade to graduate school, respectively. My husband said he wished someone would have explained things so simply to him before, and my older brother said (with a bit too much surprise), "Wow, you're really, really good at this!" The students I've tutored professionally always give me top ratings, so I suppose they must agree!
