Experience
I am a highly-qualified math teacher living within the Cherry Creek School District. During the 2014-15 school year, I taught 7th grade math as well as all levels of High School Geometry including, Honors, and Gifted and Talented 8th grade students at Colorado Connections Academy, an online public school of choice affiliated with Mapleton Public Schools. In previous years, I have also taught 6th grade math, Gifted and Talented 5th grade students and 8th grade Pre-Algebra. Most recently, I taught 7th grade math at a traditional school in a traditional classroom environment. I quickly learned that this is not the setting for which I am best suited. During my years teaching online, I felt the greatest satisfaction when I worked with student individually. In one-on-one settings, I am able to tailor instructional methods to those that work best for that particular student and provide the appropriate amount of guided and independent practice. My background, education, keen eye for detail, and leadership skills have all served to help make me successful in every endeavor of my professional career. I have been successful integrating my passion for mathematics with pedagogical philosophies to form a cohesive teaching strategy to motivate students to do their best. I am skilled at accommodating diverse student needs by facilitating all styles of learning, offering individualized and extra-curricular support, and supplementing curricula with effective and stimulating experiential projects using my extensive business background as fodder for illustrating real-world connections. I encourage independent and cooperative learning by exposing students to physical and virtual manipulatives as well as incorporating discussions, open-ended questioning, and hands-on experiments thereby creating a safe, interactive, and inquisitive environment where students feel comfortable taking risks. Additionally, I use a data-driven model to track student progress, identify areas of weakness, and ensure mastery of content. I am currently near the end of a Master’s of Arts degree in Mathematics with a Secondary Education focus through a cooperative effort of University of Northern Colorado and University of Wyoming. I am a versatile and flexible individual who has been very lucky to have worked with and encouraged diverse students who have functioned below, at, and above grade level.
