Experience
Few things are more satisfying to me than seeing that "Ah-ha!" moment when a student understands something new. Being able to participate in that process of comprehension and acquisition of new understanding is a deeply motivational factor in my teaching style. Having graduated high school with high AP test scores in English, the recognition of the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award as well as the experience of participating in All-City, All-state as well as several other regional honor bands, my passions for both music and English have continued to grow at the collegiate level, making the Dean's List at DU and holding a GPA of 3.89. Additionally, I've been a working professional in the Denver music scene since 2009, playing for various music theatre productions including shows at Aurora Fox Theatre and The Vintage Theatre, and maintaining a steady workload with Moment's Notice Entertainment. My teaching specialties revolve around electric and acoustic bass performance as well as basic piano and guitar, music theory and ear training, English composition and comprehension including basic vocabulary building as well as some simple strategies to give your writing (creative or research based) a more eloquent and intelligent tone. Although I'm most certifiably educated in Music and English, I'm presently working towards a degree in Psychology as well, so I'm very comfortable going over the foundations of this course. My strategy is to focus on whatever level the student is coming from and provide whatever foundations and background are necessary to give the student immediate improvement as well as a solid understanding of the subject matter in order to make further progress more easily- all of my lessons will build upon the fundamentals and maintain the big picture of "why this is important", an element that many young students face in learning subjects that may be challenging or downright boring to them! In terms of assignments and workload, both are catered to the specific needs of each student- if homework and quizzes would be helpful, we can work with those. In the past, I've worked with students as young as 6 and as old as 23 and i'm presently comfortable with working within this age group. I'm always happy to hear feedback and am flexible with times and scheduling. I have a 24 hour cancellation policy, but scheduling a makeup lesson is doable. For the time being, I'm available for lessons at the student's home only. Please feel free to contact me for further details!
