Experience

I began to tutor students when I was just in high school and still continue to enjoy guiding them on their way to academic success. I earned my bachelor's degree from the University of Puget Sound, where I majored in Molecular and Cellular Biology. I am now studying at the University of Colorado in pursuit of my degree in Pharmacology. Although I have tutored students from pre-kindergarten all the way to high school, mostly in mathematics and science, I would be capable of instruction in a wide variety of subjects.I believe that helping students find a comfort level of problem-solving using several different means keeps them from being stymied by the more difficult ones. I do this by encouraging them to find connections with problems they have done before and also to keep track of benchmark problems they can refer to as they go along. A good portion of my background has consisted of getting students ready for testing by teaching them strategies and making them as comfortable as possible with the material.In my downtime, I like yoga, reading motivational books, running, an occasional visit to the zoo, and having fun with friends. I also try to get home to Hawaii whenever I can.
