Experience
I’ve been tutoring math, chemistry, and physics (including engineering-level courses) for over 20 years, and I genuinely love helping students make difficult subjects click. My favorite moment is when a student pauses and says, “Wait… that’s it? It’s that easy?” — and I get to say, “Yep.” I’ve taught at the university level (both community colleges and for-profit institutions), as well as K–12 science, including a 12-week 5th-grade science course. I work with middle school, high school, college, and adult learners, and I’m especially effective with students who feel overwhelmed, stuck, or convinced they “just aren’t math/science people.” I have extensive experience working with ADHD, ADD, and dyslexic students (I’m dyslexic myself), and I adapt my teaching style to how each student learns best. Professionally, I work in energy and utilities, focusing on drafting, GIS, and mineral title work. During college, I completed two internships with NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory and worked on the Mars Exploration Rover (Spirit & Opportunity) mission — experience that helps me connect theory to real-world application. I love to read and often ask friends, colleagues, and family what their favorite books are — it’s one of my favorite ways to learn about people and discover great reads. I also enjoy running and walking with my dog and neighbors. I’ve completed eight half-marathons and one full marathon — which I’m proud of, and also happy to say was my last!
